Should I test it before my trip?

Yes — this is the most important thing you can do. Place one block in your tank about a week before you leave and watch two things: (1) whether your fish actually eat the food it releases, and (2) how your water looks and tests over a few days. A trial run lets you adjust the number of blocks, or make other arrangements, before you're away and unable to react

What fish is this best for? Will bettas and bottom feeders eat it?

It's made for freshwater community fish such as tetras, barbs, guppies, goldfish, and bettas. Keep in mind that fish can be picky: surface-feeders like bettas may take time to find food released lower in the tank, and dedicated bottom feeders such as plecos usually graze on algae and sinking foods and may not depend on the block. This is exactly why a pre-trip test run is so helpful.

How long does one block last?

Each block is designed to feed your fish for up to 7 days as it slowly dissolves. The real-world dissolving time depends on your water temperature, pH, and how much water movement your tank has — warmer water and stronger circulation make it dissolve faster, while cooler or harder (more alkaline) water makes it last longer. Because every tank is a little different, we strongly recommend a quick test runso you know exactly how your tank behaves before you travel.

Will it cloud my water or affect water quality?

A light haze can appear as the block dissolves, especially on the first day. To keep your water clear and stable: use the block in a tank with a working filter and/or air pump, don't use more blocks than your tank size calls for, and do a partial water change right before you leave and again when you return. Avoid placing the block directly under a filter outflow, since strong flow can make it break apart too quickly.

What size tank and how many fish is one block meant for?

One block is intended for a lightly to moderately stocked freshwater tank of about 10–15 gallons. For a larger or more heavily stocked tank, you may need a second block — but add it gradually and avoid overloading a small tank, which can cloud the water. When in doubt, fewer blocks and a clean tank is safer than more blocks.

Do I need a filter or air pump for this to work?

Yes. These blocks rely on gentle water circulation to dissolve evenly and release food. In a bowl or a tank with no filter or air stone, the block may simply sit there without properly feeding your fish, and any food it does release can settle and foul still water. A running filter and/or air pump is recommended for best results.

How should I store the blocks, and how long do they keep?

Store unused blocks in a cool, dry place at room temperature, sealed in their original packaging until you need them. Keep them away from humidity and moisture so they don't soften or start to dissolve early. Stored this way, they'll be ready whenever your next trip comes up.

My block didn't dissolve — or dissolved too fast. What happened?

Both come down to your tank's conditions. If it dissolved too fast, it was likely in strong flow or warm water, or too many blocks were used — next time, place it away from the filter outflow. If it barely dissolved, your water may be cool, hard, or alkaline, or your circulation may be too gentle — a little more water movement or warmth helps. A test run shows you which applies to your specific tank.

Is it safe for snails and shrimp?

The block is calcium-based, and many snails and shrimp will graze on it as a natural calcium source that supports shells and molting. That said, invertebrates are more sensitive than fish to changes in water quality. If you keep snails or shrimp, use the block only in a filtered, well-circulated tank, avoid overusing blocks, and check your water during a trial run before you rely on it for a trip.
